Christmas at Leisure World

Nine tables with anywhere from 17 to 21 at each table was set for Christmas dinner at the Leisure World rec. hall.  Several residents had family come in to share the day with them.  A special thanks to all those who helped to make this day possible, and a special thanks to management for the turkey's and ham for each table.  We did not go back for "seconds" in the evening, but take home boxes were offered to all for an evening meal.  Shut-in's were also taken care of.
A special thanks to Bob Thompson who made the announcements and gave the blessing.

An abundance of food on each food table, no more room for anything else.  Scott is enjoying the feast.

Lloyd Walker (with his back to you) felt honored to have his daughter and son-in-law (middle of picture) with him for Christmas dinner.   Hope all had a wonderful Christmas with their friends and families.

THANK YOU

A sincere "thank you" to our family and friends in Leisure World for all your prayers, thoughts, cards and concerns due to Trudy's accident on November 17th and Larry's illness on December 11th, 2015.
Larry came home from the hospital on December 16th and Trudy from the rehab center on December 18th. This was Trudy's Christmas Prayer and it was granted.  Another example of "Prayer is Powerful".
Our family and friends are such a good support system and along with the good care we received from the hospital and rehab center, we are able to be home and help each other.
Our daughter, Teresa Hunter, drove down from Waconia, MN. to help us for a week, she was a blessing to have with us.
We appreciate our family and friends so much.
We wish everyone a Very Happy and Healthy New year of 2016.
God Bless Everyone

Trudy and Larry Hauserman

The card room

Games aren't the only activity we use the card room for.  Someone had a birthday who plays games with different groups, so we had to surprise Mary Bass with a few "funny" cards for a good laugh.  Mary had a birthday on Monday, December 14th.
No this is not Mary in the picture.  Just one of the many cards she got to open.
Also this summer someone sent a birthday cake to Stan (not really), but the package was returned, therefore Stan received a German Cake which he had to share with Mary for her birthday.
Stan, the knife is for cutting cake, not licking the frosting off....

Leisure World Chapel - Joys and Concerns

Trudy Hauserman gets to go home on Friday from re-hab.  She says Yippee...  She can walk now, but has to be careful.  Will have to have some in-house therapy for about three weeks.  Larry Hauserman was released from the hospital on Wednesday, but this morning had some severe back pain, so back to the hospital.  Will know more later.

Illinois Breakfast

Thanks to Helen Mott for organizing the first breakfast this season for the Leisure World Illinois/Indiana residents.  On December 17th, there were seventeen who enjoyed the food and had a great time visiting.  Watch the sign-up sheet in the rec hall for the next Illinois/Indiana breakfast.  Sign up and come join us, after all what better thing to do then to go out for a good meal...

Around the table - Snowden, Hukel, Langman, Connett, Mott, Babcock, Cantu, Lewis, Herbig & Marriner.
How about that, our photographer finally got in a picture....
Dick Babcock is patiently waiting for his meal... There was a little mix up, Langman got "A" meal and started eating, but realized he had Dick's meal.  So they tried to give Dick Babcock Langman's meal, but it  was too spicy, so Helen (who had received two eggs over easy) gave her meal to Dick, and when they finally switched toast to their liking, all was happy and full...  And all left with a smile and a full tummy...

JUST A LITTLE DONKEY

Just a little donkey,
but on my back I bore
The one and only Savior
the world was waiting for.

Just a little donkey,
but I was strong and proud--
I gladly carried Mary
through the chaos of the crowd.

I brought her to a stable
where she made a tiny bed...
A place for Baby Jesus
to lay his little head.

I pray the world remembers
that special Christmas night
when just a little donkey
carried Heaven's Precious Light.
          --Rita S. Beer

I received this verse from a very dear friend Linda, and thought it was worth sharing.  May each and everyone of you have a Blessed Christmas.

Our Hero Turns 93

On December 4, 2015, several Leisure World residents gathered at the Riverside to help Lloyd Walker celebrate his 93rd birthday.  In the picture below Lloyd is saying "Yippee" - if I can stay at 93 and get a kiss from the ladies, I will do this every day....  And beside him Mary says - sure you would...
We all felt that we were the lucky ones to get to celebrate a birthday with our Leisure World friend Lloyd.  Happy Birthday Lloyd.

I think all the guys were jealous that they didn't get a kiss, but all had a great time.

LEISURE WORLD RED HAT CHRISTMAS PARTY

A team of five Red Hat Ladies (Phyllis Connett, Carolyn Cornelious, Mary Gainer, Yvonne Grimmius, and Joannie Miller) got their heads together and started planning for the Red Hat Christmas party for December 3, 2015.  In the spring of 2015, Phyllis, Mary and Joannie started making bell necklaces, and Mary started shrinking Styrofoam cups for the little table hats.  Shopping took place to purchase decorations and the ideas, and preparing kept going.  Phyllis started on the computer work thinking of games, making place mats and printing items, while back in Indiana Carolyn was making neat prizes to hand out.  Yvonne volunteered to make "cookies" (she made 100), while Joannie was working on the Christmas tree...  All got their heads together and all was involved in making up the meal.  And then the day came to see about 36 red hat ladies walking through the door at the rec. hall.  The admission was to bring one non-perishable item, which was donated to the Aurora House (a hospice home on 18th street).  A couple of "hubbies" got involved in making tea, coffee, some handy work and setting up tables.  At 11:00 AM, the fun started with a welcome by Mary, then Joannie and Phyllis followed with games while Carolyn and Yvonne kept busy in the background.  All who attended was awarded for their "smarts" with bells to hang around their neck and magnet snowmen.  Exchange of gifts took place.  One person cannot do this along and we felt we had a great team working together to pull this off.  We were pleased to see all having a great time.  Queen Connie spoke as the gathering came to a close.  Thanks to Pat LaFoe who delivered the "goods" to the Aurora House.
