On Wednesday March 25th, Wally Bentt acted as the DJ for a Sock-Hop. Now some may not know what a Sock-Hop is. Well a Sock-Hop or plain old Hop is an informal dance for teen agers. It was commonly held at high schools and other educational institutions, often in the school gym or cafeteria. The term came about because dancers were required to remove their hard-soled shoes to protect the varnished floor of the gymnasium. The music at a sock hop was usually played from vinyl records, and sometimes presented by a disc jockey. Such music was usually 50s and 60s rock, what we now commonly call ‘Classic Rock.’
Did I say Teen Agers! Well we had forty some recycled Teen Agers dancing to tunes like Be-Bop-A-Lula, Hound Dog, Da Doo Run Run, La Bamba, and the Wooly Bully among many more. No we didn’t have a mirror ball, however Wally did have Apple’s iTunes Visualizer playing over the video projector!

|Ray & Denise . . . Their Last Dance this Season!|
After all that jiving, waltzing and plain old dancing going on, we needed a break half way through the evening. So Marj Herbig came up and sold off all of the remaining ice cream bars that she had left over. Those helped us make it through the second half OK.

We had some filtering away early to bed, but come the last dance at 10pm with Brook Benton’s “Rainy Night In Georgia” there was still a good crowd squeezing their sweethearts.
