On Monday, November 9th, past Leisure World resident Trudy Hauserman had a fall in her home.  She hit her head on the tile causing a brain bleed, and rushed to the hospital finding she has a compound fracture on her left foot.  A broken bone that went through the skin bleeding and another broken bone on the other side of the same foot.
After a few days in ICU, her right foot was painful also and very bruised.  In checking out that foot, she learned she had another problem - a fracture in the arch - a broken metatarsal bone plus another broken bone.
But, she is looking on the bright side, as she was told she gets to wear a special "wood" shoe.  This will give her some support to help her put weight on the right foot.
After spending a few days in ICU, she will be going to a nursing home where she will be having therapy for a minimum of one week.  Trudy always enjoyed Leisure World residents and so many have asked about her.   If you would like to send Trudy a note, she would love to hear from you...

Leisure World Ladies

Joannie, C.C., Phyllis and Mary are here at Leisure World.  Sure do miss our Trudy.   Good luck on that ankle you broke.  It would have freaked us out to see a bone outside of the skin bleeding and then another bone on the other side broken.  When you have to sit for the next month, this might give you a good laugh for the day.  We miss you here in the park.

Jack Bell Obit

I received the following post via email from Sue Heiderscheidt

Some residents may remember Fran and Jack Bell when they were at Leisure World.  They spent the winter in a 5th wheel camper on Lot 20 in the alley (Palm Way)  for several years.

Obituary for John "Jack" Martin Bell
John “Jack” Martin Bell was born on September 28, 1929, one of four children, to Robert and Emma (Zimmerman) Bell of Hancock, Minnesota. Jack was raised in Hancock and was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Jack graduated from Hancock High School. After high school he attended college for a year before returning to Hancock and running the local grocery store with his brother in 1950. In 1952 the family moved to rural Hancock and started farming full time for the next fifteen years. After retiring from farming, Jack started working at Steinbring Motors in Alexandria as a car salesman; he worked for Steinbring’s for 18 years retiring as the new car sales manager.
Jack and Frances Nibbe were married in 1950; to this union four children were born. In the sixty five years they were married, they made many memories, had lots of laughs and lived to enjoy their four children, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and were members of Zion Lutheran Church for fifty years. He was the husband and father that despite his busy schedule, was always present.
Jack was a person who fixed things himself and was always tinkering on radios or making gifts out of wood. He would talk about tires and tractors with anyone. Jack loved cowboys, whether it was classic western TV shows or reading Louis L`amour books. Jack and Fran spent their retirement winters in Texas. He was a person who was thrifty, but more importantly, he was an honest man who was devoted to his family.
On Thursday, October 29, 2015 Jack died at the age of eight six years. He is preceded in death by a brother and sister. He is survived by his wife, Fran; children, Brenda Walsten and husband, Timothy, Marcia Bell (Peter Rosendahl), Darla Brink and husband, Jim, and David Bell; grandchildren, Sara Ruggiero and husband, Chris, Shannon Walsten, Diana Walsten, Kayla Walsten, Martin Woessner, and Michael Woessner; six great grandchildren; and brother, Zera “Zip” Bell.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN.

Leisure World Halloween Party

Saturday, October 31st, it was a spooky, delightful, and fun-filled time at the Leisure World rec. hall.
Thanks to Gordy and Ardy Thompson with their team of workers who put on such a great evening for the Leisure World residents.
I guess Gordy was released for awhile so he could help at this party.  He said he was going to "frisk" all the women as some of the prizes came up missing... humm, wonder what he was serving time for???  Prizes found...
Residents furnished the assortment of food on the tables which was delicious even though some of the deviled eggs had "spiders" on them, and some looked like "eye balls".
Decorated pumpkins were brought to the hall early, so nobody knew who's was who...
And then they were judged.  No. 6 came in first, No. 3 came in second and No. 2 came in third place.
5 and 6
3 and 4
1 and 2
Humm - what happened to Rita - "her friend" was carrying her around all evening... Looks like she twisted her ankle...
There were several who "dressed" for the evening, but only a few who actually got in the "line-up". Middle is Rick Alden, taking first place, third one in picture is Jerry Keesee, taking second place and first in picture is Roger Gallea who took third place.
And for the ladies - Rita (and her friend) took first place.
Carolyn Pricket, Nan Alden and Mary LaFaive.
All prizes were donated from Weslaco businesses - restaurtants, theaters and etc.  Thanks to all these businesses who so generously donated.

Some in the crowd dressed for the occassion, but some just came to enjoy the evening... Jan Scheetz
visiting with Bob Watkins.

Cindy Keesee as a cool cat and below is Dennis LaFaive being attacked by the spider.
Phyllis Connett just having a good time...
Nan Alden serving punch while Pumpkin Marge Herbig looks on...
The "Rudes" and Cool Cat Cindy Keesee.
And Lloyd Walker and Mary Casey visiting with Jim Wright.
All had a great time and to top off the evening, Verna Louze celebrated her birthday as everyone sang Happy Birthday and shared a beautiful cake.

Friday Afternoon at Leisure World

Friday afternoons (4:00 PM) at Leisure World, you will most likely see the same "bunch" at the card room just relaxing and having a good visit with their "neighbor".  Of course we all bring finger foods, as what would a gathering be like if you didn't have something sitting in front of you to snack on.  You should consider joining the "bunch" as you can always learn something... and have a great time.  One of the regular attenders is Mary Baas who usually brings her friends Ole and Lena.  You don't want to miss their stories they have to tell.

No, that is not Ole and Lena with Mary, it is (from left) Dick, Mary and Stan.
There is no secrets in this group, just good fun and story-telling.  Come and join us.
